There was a 2017 350 KTM there that wasn't an SX-F, but some type of desert bike. I think it was an XC with the large fuel tank. But what had me asking the shop owner more about the bike, was that it only had 20 hours on it, and the motor was toast due to the large plastic oil pump gear that had failed. The gear did not strip, but the gear had

All you have to do is search KTM530 and the RC4 oil migration problem will pop up right along with everything else. You obviously know the causes so you did some research. The question is do you actually have an 09 motor, makes a bike difference in the possible causes of your problem.
After you do regular maintenance of oil change and valve checking. 1) Pull the stator cover and check it every 1000-1500 miles. If there is a valve train issue, it will be stuck to your pulse coil or flywheel. 2) Get cam cam chain press and extra master link. 3) Replace cam bearings at 3000 miles or so.
A well maintained 450 ridden by a fast motocross guy will easily go 60 hours on a topend (piston, rings, timing chain). This is as long as you're not doing stupid shit like bouncing off the Rev limiter in the air. For your average joe/trail rider I would push it to 80-100 hours. The key is frequent oil changes and a clean air filter.

I usually change the oil after each full day of riding, every 2nd change I do the filters. Just remember to fill the filter cavities with oil 1/2 way after
I have a 2008 450EXCR that I dual sport and it is GREAT! I did change the front and rear sprockets to lower the gearing a bit and it will still go almost 100mph. It is race bike like in the dirt and street competent to get to the dirt. It is the best dual sport bike I have owned since 1969. #14. G600 , Nov 29, 2009.
Quick vid on changing the oil in your forks, anyone can do it and I show the easiest way to do it.
